Daily report of  Nov 20 2002
- RC : Jacques Arvieux -

A very productive day with many different studies and some interesting results (more than 200 g0log entries and the day is not over yet....).
Congratulations to the many who contributed.

11/20 Owl Shift-

00:00-02:00    We checked the Front/Back coincidences in FR electronics (Domi, Christophe). Was done with GENEX in September 02 but that does not take into
account differences in cable lengths and signal shape-  83388379
02:00-09:00    Neutral Axis studies: beam steering in x and y using beam line magnetic optics  8373 . See below (Analysis) for the results

11/20 Day Shift

MCC told me at the 08:00 meeting that there would be some Hall B beam studies at 09:00 to be followed by some injector studies for G0 beam until 14:00. At 09:00 they had changed their mind and the beam studies were cancelled except for a short one (1h) in the injector around noon. So we cancelled the plan to ramp down the magnet for software work, which would have taken 3-4 hours. This will be scheduled firmly tomorrow whatever happens to the G0 beam studies planned by MCC between 10:00 and 13:00.

09:30-15:00    Lumi studies (Betsy). Some encoraging results to be seen in  8443 . At lest 2 Lumi monitors seem to work fine (lucite and water Cerenkov) and there are
more to come (bare PMT, quartz). Some more detailed studies will be done tomorrow for 1-2h between 04:00 and 10:00 if the main program (Neutral Axis)
                        allows it..
These were interleaved with HB paddle shielding studies (to see if Pavel can reproduce the data) and NA YO delay studies (with the present YO the pions are cut when the full_gain HV is used on the NA detectors)

11/20 Swing Shift
More HB paddle studies. See some nice results in  (S. Williamson 8468 ).
Problem found in Oct1-Det11 and fixed (LTD defect )- (Domi, S. Wells, P. King-8486 )
Checking FiB coincidence timing with new delay file.(Domi, Christophe)

Analysis status

Look to the analysis of the first Neutral Axis steering results by Kaz - 8481-8482 . This was horizontal steering. The data show nicely that the up/down counting rate ratio is constant (Octant 1/Octant 3) and that the left/right ratio exhibits a nice linear slope as it should.
The FR octants being all tilted, the data show a linear slope in 2/6 and 4/8.
This is a proof that the NA and FR octants are were we think they are (in case someone had doubts :-)

General issues

Some very important issue: I learned this morning at the MCC meeting that the beam will be shut down Wed 27 Nov at 08:00 (am) for Thanksgiving. This is one day less than indicated in Steve Pate's schedule. The last 3 days are planned for empty target studies so the new schedule looks like this:

Sun  11/24    16:00    LH2 boil-off
Mon 11/25    09:00    Hall C access for ~2h: pump out H2 gas and fill with He gas
Mon 11/25    16:00    He cooled, tgt ready for empty tgt runs (with FR and NA detectors ON) untl Tue 11/26 at 16:00

Tue  11/26 Swing Shift and  Wed  11/27 Owl Shift ==>   G0 Beam Studies (2 shifts)

That means that there will be no data taking starting already Tue 26/11 at 16:00. I looked at the program and I think that, barring any catastrophic event, we'll have completed the Neutral Axis studies and Shielding tests by that time. We might even have some  time during the next week-end to take some long Asymmetry runs.

During target work-out, we can do Moeller measurements and take some carbon or empty target data. If you have any needs or ideas, please send me a mail asap so that I can prepare a detailed schedule for these 2-3 days.
