Entering Logs
(updated 9/09/02)
Here is the G0 Logbook
Here is the Hall C Logbook
Here is the Hall C Logbook Manual
The following are some common elog instructions.
1. How to Enter logs into G0Log
The basic method for entering logs into G0Log is simple. This should be done on X-windows, or through an X-emulator.
- From any Cue machine, goto /group/gzero/g0log/src/
- type: g0logentry
- A window will pop up that allows you to type in the User, Subject, and Description.
- Hit "Make Entry" once you're done filling in the above 3.
2. How To Scan Into G0Log. (Do this from cdaqh1, login as cvxwrks. Path is /cdaqh1/d1/cvxwrks/, then type g0log)
An HP ScanJet 4c is currently connected to cdaqh1 in the electronics compartment in the Hall C counting house. Right now the method to scan the documents is the following:
- place the document in the scanner (face down, aligned to the top right corner)
- log into cdaqh1 as cdaq, run 'xvscan'
- in the window that appears now, click the right mouse button to invoke the xv controls window.
- in the xv controls window, click on the 'Windows' button and select 'Scanner' - the XVscan window appears.
- In the XVscan window, select scan type, size, contrast, brightness and resolution
- click on scan
- the scanned image will appear in the XV main window
- enter 'g0log' or 'hclog'
- from the hclogentry window, enter your message and screengrab the XV window (preferrably without the border).
This method can be used to enter logs into HCLOG or G0LOG. If entering into G0LOG, make sure that your g0 logentry screen has been started from cdaqh1.
3. How to move text files directly into HCLOG (and G0LOG?)
- ~cdaq/hclog/src/hclogentry.file your_text_file "your shourt title of the entry" (The quotation marks should be there)
- It maybe useful to put in your .login or .alias:
alias hclogfile ~cdaq/hclog/src/hclogentry.file
